Protesting High GST & Mandi Tax; Plywood Industries calls for Nationwide strike from 14th July 2017

The voice to reduce to GST rate on Plywood and to abolish Mandi Tax in wood based business is getting louder and wider. The call for strike to make this protest against high GST slab was raised by Haryana Plywood Manufacturers’ Association (HPMA) A week ago. The harsh decsion of going on strike by plywood manufacturers has been taken after repeated efforts have been made to convince GST committe to consider for lower slab from steep 28 percent and to state authorities for abolishing mandi tax are unheard. 

Supporting the cause, Punjab Plywood Manufacturers Association, UP plywood manufacturers & Uttarakhand plywood manufacturers association have also decided to shut the factories from 14th July. According to latest reports recieved by the Ply Reporter, Rajasthan and Bihar state plywood manufactuerers are also considering to come togeather support of demand for lower GST slab on plywood. 

The strike will cause a big blow to timber growers, farmers, transporters, plywood favtories workers and will also affect the employment of thousnads of people related to wood panel trade. The 'All India Plywood Manufacturers Association' is leading this protest where others state associations are joining and supporting the cause. Devender Chawla, President, AIPMA said that "to support the existance of industry, farmers & employment of this trade, this strike is a way to lodge our protest". AIPMA chairman, Naresh Tiwari said that whole India including producers, traders and suppliers will unite if need arise for resucing the GST slab. 

HPMA ( Haryana) President Ajay Maniktala has appealed all members to support strike by complete closing of their units. He also informed that HPMA members, factory staffs and labors will march to Yamunanagar DC office on 14thJuly and will give a memorandum of their demands. HPMA has called a meeting of their Members on 17th July to decide further course of action. PPMA ( Punjab) has called a meeting of their members on 14th July night to decide further course of action. 

Till writing the news plywood Industry of half of India looks certain to shut their units from July 14th that will create a short supply in market and ultimately cause heavy revenue loss to the country.
