The emergence of South Indian states like Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala is a possible trend that will began to take shape. With availability of ‘Melia Dubia’ timber species and advantage to Vishakhapatnam based plywood manufacturing plants due to ‘Eucaly’ termed timber suitability for manufacturing plywood is set to change the positioning of southern India. The shift of rubber-based plywood makers towards film face shuttering has yielded a little but significant impact on North Indian driven dependency.

Year 2019 is expected to mark the beginning of more production and competitive price in South India thus shifting some market share of quality plywood and brands towards South. With weakening position of Kandla based unit the due to costlier imports and shift face veneering from non Gurjan/Keruin species to imported face, their relevance and dependency on imported core based working will give advantage to Vizag and other locations of South.

The year 2018 witnessed new MDF plant of Green Panel Max in Andhra Pradesh. The arrival of Rushil décor new MDF line, Virgo’s HPL plant, expansion in capacity of old plants and possibilities of few more wood based industries in South is certainly mark a shift the way Indian wood based panel industry and trade was taking this region.
