Punjab Plywood Manufacturers Hike Price by 8%

The manufacturers of plywood, ply board and flush doors of Punjab have hiked the price of their product by 8 percent. The decision was taken in the general house meeting of the Punjab Plywood Manufacturers Association (PPMA) held in Ludhiana under the chairmanship of Mr. Ashok Kumar Juneja and the president of the association Mr. Inderjit Singh Sohal.

Mr. Ashok Juneja Chairman of PPMA said that as the raw material and input costs for manufacturing plywood boards, flush doors and allied goods have increased by about 10-12 per cent. Due to increase of these costs all units are facing difficulties and to avoid closure have revised their selling prices on all products with immediate effect.

Mr. Naresh Tiwari, Chairman of the All-India Plywood Manufacturing Association (AIPMA), appeals to farmers to grow poplar and safeda trees in large numbers as these would provide them much income compared to other crops. Mr. Tiwari said that there are about 150 plywood manufacturing units in the state and the demand for these trees will never decrease and it will be much profitable agro crop for them. He also demanded from the government not to issue new licences for installation of plywood units for at least five years.

In view of the Supreme Court directions, the Central empowered committee has decided that licences can only be issued keeping in view the agro crop available in the concerned states, he added. Mr. Baldev Singh and Mr. Harmeet Singh, vice-presidents, PPMA, said all plywood units would stop supplies to those plywood dealers who do not make timely payment against the purchasing of plywood and other allied products.

Mr. Avinash Singla, Finance secretary, Sandeep Singh, Subhash Chander Mukhija, Sarthi Bansal, Jai Gandhi, Paramjit Singh, Gurpreet Singh Kataria, Vijay Juneja, Navdeep Tiwari, Sanchit Gupta, Anmol Juneja, Vishal Juneja, Amit Juneja, Maheshdeep Singh, Manjit Singh, Davinder Paul and Gurpreet Sohal and other members were also present in the meeting. All the members also express their views for progress and development of the industry.
