The biggest and most impactful move is expected in 2019 in form of lower GST slab on wood panel products and related materials. With growing revenue from the building material segment including plywood and panels, there is a strong possibility that GST slab will significantly reduce by 3-5 percent or more. The ‘clubbing of two GST slabs in one slab’ could be some where between 14 to 15% depending upon states consent and agreement but the Goods & Services Tax is further going to reduce.
The Ply Reporter will not wonder if entire building material segment including cement, steel and other commodities are brought at even lesser slab that may fall in 12% or below. Hopes and moves indicate that ‘Year 2019 shall witness such move in first half of the calendar years’ giving further strength to organised companies and bringing closer to PM Modi dream of a formal and corruption free economy.
If any such move happens, that advantage to remaining few informal operating companies will further narrow down, thus putting a question mark on their future in new emerging business environment in our country.
