How did you come into PVC laminate manufacturing?

While setting up the plant for manufacturing PVC/ WPC Foam Boards, we decided to go for a line to manufacture PVC laminate. Since we are already in the line of paper based high pressure decorative laminates manufacturing, we found this product of same category. Also, this would be our new decorative offering to the market.

Many architects and OEMs are reluctant in using PVC laminates. But now scenario is changing and tier II and III architects are using PVC laminates for kitchen and highlighter. Of-course, metro city architects are not recommending.

According to you how much PVC laminate sheets are being produced in India and what is the strength of imports? Share of white v/s design?

In my estimate, the domestic production is approx. 450,000 sheets per month, whereas India imports approx. 150,000 sheets every month. The market share of white and off-white sheets stands at approx. 30%.

How do you see the future of PVC laminate in India?

Having the properties of high moisture resistance, termite proof and 90 degree bending properties, this product is suitable for making many kind of household furniture. The charming colours and designs is also an attraction. It seems that future is bright, if continuous innovations, specially, UV coating are done.

There are many disadvantages for its application. What do you say?

PVC laminate is reco-mmended for vertical applications. Yes, there is limitation of PVC laminate in horizontal application, but, it is not a major constraint except that it is more prone to scratches.

In the last two years what were new developments/ offerings in this category?

Since the last two years, Veneers range is doing extremely good. The textured laminates have also drawn attention of consumers and are moving reasonably.

According to you why should a customer choose PVC laminates for their laminating needs?

PVC laminate has many features like water proof, termite proof, 90 degree bending and eco-friendly. Cutting, bending and pasting is also very easy. These properties are not present in conventional decorative panels. In addition, it is high glossy and is available in appealing designs and colours.

In PVC laminate segment there are many small capacity plants. How is it beneficial or disadvantageous?

Yes, many small and medium players are there in this line, but many of them are doing billing adjustments and sometimes tend to compromise on quality parameters.

Architects and OEMs are not much aware about using PVC laminates. What is your view?\

Yes, many architects and OEMs are reluctant in using PVC laminates. But now scenario is changing and tier II and III architects are using PVC laminates for kitchen and highlighter. Of-course, metro city architects are not recommending.

Application aches, like scratches, problem in cutting, not proper bending/pasting and grooving are there. What is your message to your customers in this regards?

A little training can resolve issues like cutting, bending, pasting and grooving of PVC laminate. Of course, scratch is a prominent problem which has a little solution as on date. Only careful handling can minimize this issue.
