The petition filed in SC against the NGT order dated Feb 18, 2020 on new licensing by UP government has been withdrawn by the petitioners seeking leave with liberty to file review before NGT, as delay in filing the review shall not come in the way. In his order NGT had quashed the licensing procedure as well as the notice issued by the Govt. for establishing new wood-based industries in the state on the ground of no availability of timber in the state

Later the Department of Forest by appointed Solicitor General of India, Mr Tusar Mehta; Sr Advocate Ms Aishwarya Bhati and Advocate Mr Kamlendra Mishra had filed a case at the apex court against NGT. This has been done in the wake of the complaint filed by Rampur based Mr Pradeep Jain who had written to the Government of India to review the matter and after approval of the draft matter the case had been filed in SC.

In the notice issued on March 1, 2019, the UP government had proposed to issue licences for 1,350 new wood-based industries and for that after inviting applications and having licensing process many of the provisional licences were also issued. On the basis of that the industry stake holders were invested huge capital in machines, land acquisition and making other infrastructures for the establishments. After NGT order against UP Govt. the department had assured the stake holders that they are trying their level best. If the decision comes in the favour of UP Govt. they will proceed further without any delay.
