Covid has changed the way of living of people. People increasingly want furniture items and products which are pre-finished, attractive, portable as well as durable; hence there is a high demand of readymade Shutters, Carcass, Wardrobes and other home furniture. That is why more quantity of Calibrated plywood is needed to meet the requirements, but quality supply is an issue. Earlier imports from China, Vietnam, etc were key places for imports but it is a challenge now.

Presently India Make Calibrated Plywoods do not offer such feature except few brands. The imports have become costlier by 30% due to freights and delayed supply.  In past few years, Indian plywood factories have started making calibrated plywood with new infrastructure and machines for making Matt ply, but India has hardly 30 such units. Where as, our estimate points towards a possible requirement of production from 100s of units. The trend indicates that there is a huge requirement of calibrated plywood is coming and it will continue.

We hope market will adopt and create a balance with plywood manufacturers. Apart from getting a big chunk of imported calibrated plywood market, there are fresh demands reported from all around the market. If supply improves, it will grow further because these segment are not shifted yet to another alternate such as MDF, Particle Boards, PVC boards etc because of plywood unique features of strength, durability as well as mechanical properties.

However, plywood Industries blame buyers for not paying the genuine price for calibrated plywood because their input costs increase by 5% and that somewhere discourage them to invest for this process. We hope market will adopt and create a balance with plywood manufacturers. Apart from getting a big chunk of imported calibrated plywood market, there are fresh demands reported from all around the market.
