How did you come into PVC laminate manufacturing? Share your story behind it?
We started import of PVC laminate in early 2016. In imports it is very difficult to maintain stocks in decorative, so we thought it better to start manufacturing it. Also in import stock investment is very high and if we manufacture, we only have to stock the decorative foil whose investment is comparatively lower. We wanted to establish a brand in PVC laminates which is also not possible in imported sheets.
We have already ordered one more machine of bigger capacity after which our capacity will be 80,000 sheets/ month. From the last 5 consecutive months, our sale has grown to around 25,000 sheets. However our biggest organizational strength is that we have enough stock of the foil to feed the market for 6 months and a good network to cater the short supply of our distributors, which is the basic need of the decorative industry.
How do you see the future of PVC laminate in India?
PVC laminate market in India is growing every month due to better quality, designs and availability in the market. Usage of PVC Laminates has grown from kitchen to wardrobe and other areas where only 1mm laminates are being used.
PVC Laminate’s major application is vertical, so there is limitation for its application growth. What do you say?
These days matt and soft touch designs are being applied on the horizontal surfaces also, which are almost anti scratch. After the Indian manufacturers have entered into the market, there is a continuous betterment of the product, so many disadvantages like delamination, breakage of panel and the discoloration are no more. Day by day the usage is also growing. So I see a very bright future of the industry.
What have your new offerings in the last two years?
Now PVC laminate is not just laminate which comes in matt and gloss. There are many option now such as matt, gloss, UV gloss, soft touch, veneer designs, textures, charcoal, 3D, rustic and SF. These variants altogether are giving customer a wide variety to choose from which is ultimately eating away the share of 1mm laminates, acrylic and solid surface sheets
Why should a customer choose PVC laminates?
Five years back customer just had an option of pape base laminates which usually came in wooden designs and some textures. PVC laminates are not just wooden designs. By applying PVC laminates one can get a new, modern and trendy look to their walls and furniture at an affordable price. Also PVC laminates have a better gloss and depth in design
In PVC laminate segment small capacity plants are many. How it is beneficial or disadvantageous?
Small capacity plants are helping to increase the market share of Indian origin sheets. In the past we only had to fight with imported sheets, whose prices were very low. These plants are just selling sparkle designs majorly.
