After a period of 10 years, there is a general feeling in the markets that good companies who produce quality plywood are back in demand and this time with higher respect. In a recent survey conducted by Ply Reporter, there is a clear spurt noted in demand for composed core plywood, calibrated plywood and genuine water proof plywood by the retailers in developing markets.

Every 12th counter dealing in wood panel retailing is willing to deal with a decent brand who has calibrated plywood with 0.2mm variation in thickness and visibly flat surface quality. The survey conducted in the Delhi region showed stark contrast to our own survey done in Year 2015, when one out of 40 shops wanted to sell genuine calibrated plywood. Today the word quality in the plywood sector is drawing a parallel to ‘whether the manufacturer has a ‘MAT PRESSING’ process with core composers?

Delhi NCR region has become a significant big consumption point for 16mm calibrated plywood which is being sold at around 16 to 20% higher price than conventional plywood. The market demand for quality plywood is increasing rapidly with a rise in the number of supplier brands. The present survey threw up startling numbers where market share for the composed core and calibrated plywood category has gone up from 3 % in 2015 to 11.0 % in July 2021.

The Ply Reporter another survey conducted in Andhra Pradesh region has shown a tremendous rise in demand for genuine water proof material with genuine guaranteed products. Our upcoming issues will have more news related to our recent surveys done on the plywood category.
