Cheap Arrival of Plywood ‘Made in Nepal’ Impacting Domestic Factories

The plywood import from Nepal has been reported to robustly rise in the last 6 months, and it has been noted to increase every month. These ply woods are available at economical prices which has directly impacted the plywood industry located in Haryana and Punjab. As per report, Nepalese plywood has been mostly sold in Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Jharkhand, West Bengal, Odisha and a part of Chhattisgarh, Vidarbha, and Madhya Pradesh.

The recent report indicates that the dealers from Delhi, Rajasthan, Gujarat and Maharashtra are also keen to buy Nepalese Plywood and looking for contacts. Many number dealers contact the Ply Reporter office regularly and ask the number of Nepal based Plywood producers and traders.

A dealer from Varanasi says that Nepalese plywood quality is not much up to mark but it is available at affordable price, hence he prefers to buy these materials compared to Yamunanagar based plywood materials. As per report, Nepalese Plywood reaches at approx Rs 40 to India market. Unconfirmed sources say that Nepal exports approx 400 trucks plywood products in the India market every month, and it is growing.

Nepal has approx 80 Plywood manufacturing establishments, and they use UTTIS core veneers for making plywood, which is available in abundant quantities there. UTTIS is like hardwood timber, and its density is said to be similar to Eucalyptus timber. As per report, due to recent increased demand from the India market, Nepalese plywood units are running at full capacity, but their product quality has been considered as average as per market report.
