All the traders and retailers should thereby be on guard with regard to making scrutiny of bills and check the authenticity of BIS marks at their end. They are also advised to keep the necessary documentation ready beforehand as BIS is taking a strict stance on the non-compliant units.

It has been about six months since the implementation of new BIS standards in the plywood industry, many large, medium & small scale plywood units across the length and breadth of the country are scrambling to obtain BIS license yet only 1000 units have registered under new BIS rules. From 28th Aug, all scale of plywood units has come under mandatory BIS compliance.

In such a scenario when industry is passing through a transitional stage of regularization, many regional units may face challenges owing to their ignorance about the new ISI standards. BIS and industry associations are also keen on spreading awareness about revision s in the standards particularly the inclusion of BWP grade in IS 303. The compliance issue poses another challenge in front of small units and traders.

All the traders and retailers should thereby be on guard with regard to making scrutiny of bills and check the authenticity of BIS marks at their end. They are also advised to keep the necessary documentation ready beforehand as BIS is taking a strict stance on the non-compliant units.

After initial resistance, the plywood and MDF board industry is now slowly but surely embracing mandatory quality control norms as they have recognised the long-term benefits of adhering to high-quality standards.
