Heat Wave Delays Return of Workers At Factories After Election Rush

Tuesday, 26 May 2026

Owing to excessive heat in the north & central parts of the country, the return of the labourers at various wood panel factories & construction sites may be prevented in the month of May after their planned departure in April citing assembly elections in five regions.

Earlier in April, thousands of migrant workers from West Bengal & Assam, employed in the regions like Bengaluru, Kannur, Mangalore, Bangalore, Mumbai, Punjab and Delhi had departed to their home state to cast their vote which caused an acute labour shortage at the wood panel producers in both South & North India as a great deal of peeling workers come from states like WB & Assam.

The panel product factory owners were anticipating their return to work sites early in May but scorching 38 heat in central India and workers' engagement in their family functions has seemed to have obliged them to extend their stay at their home state, as per the reports from various plywood manufacturers.

A similar scenario is visible in real estate, as the workers at construction projects are yet to return at the sites, the persisting shortage of labour at these areas may cause the delays in the handover of home and commercial units to the owners, waiting for the possession.
