Author - Mr. Saharsh Khaitan has been working as Director Marketing, Durian Industries for the last 15 years and he mainly looks after the North India market. During a quick chat with THE PLY REPORTER, he spoke about the relevance of the book for dealers, contractors, builders, architects, and users, how it would help them improve their knowledge about quality, application, and selection of Doors.

Q:- How did the idea of writing a book on ‘Doors’ come to your mind?

A:- I have seen a lot of people, even architects and builders make the wrong choices when buying Doors and Door frames, losing a lot of their hard-earned money. I thought of gifting them a guide on what to buy, but after a lot of research I could not find anything on amazon India or US. This led to think about writing probably the first book in the world on doors, with our company’s combined knowledge, for people to make the right choices when buying their Door and Door frame.

Q:- What message do you want to give through your book ‘Knock Knock’?

A:- I have tried to cover all aspects involved in selecting a door so readers can make an informed and correct choice when buying their door and door frames to get maximum value for their money in terms of Aesthetics, Functionality, and Longevity of the product.

Q:- How is it useful to a dealer?
A:- The intent of the dealer is usually to give the best advice and product to their customers be it a Contractor, Architect or an End Customer and this book will enable them to always give the right advice to their customers and gain their loyalty. This also may help them to choose and work with the right brands in the market.

Q:-  How do you see the future of the Indian doors market?
A:-  I forsee a dramatic shift in the Indian doors market i.e. we will slowly shift from the conventional system of buying wood, and getting the door and door frame By Mr. Saharsh Khaitan, Director of Marketing, Durian Industries made by the carpenter to readymade doors and door frames. This shift is inevitable as the advantages of the readymade door and door frames are far more in comparison to door made by the carpenter. Besides, more and more organized manufacturers will come into this space which will further grow awareness and consequentially the market will increase leaps and bounds. In India, we lack standardization in the door sizes, but eventually as the market grows, I am sure we will overcome this challenge too.

Q:-  What is the market size?

A:-  It is difficult to determine the size of the total market of door in India, but even on a very pessimistic figure I believe it will be nothing less than 10 Lakh doors a month and I believe this total market will slowly convert to the pre-hung doors and door frames, so the opportunity is huge.

Q:-Which type of doors market will grow further and why?

A:- I believe the pre-hung doors will take over the market of raw doors and the biggest reason is ,it offers an easy, cost-effective, time saving and a better-looking solution to the door requirements vis a vis the one made on the site.

This shift will be supported by the fact that more and more customers who are building their own homes are looking to work with more convenient and time-saving products. Also, the large builders have realized the advantages of the finished products and are rapidly shifting towards the Prehung concept.
