Laminate Biggies Entering into Particle Boards Manufacturing

The growing consumption in Particle Boards is attracting new players towards manufacturing. The High Pressure Decorative Laminates companies are also planning big to invest in large scale Particle Boards manufacturing plants. As per report, the HPL big players are already set to enter into Wood based Particle Boards manufacturing in different states and locations in India.

The leading decorative laminate brand ‘Merino’ is expected to enter into Particle Boards manufacturing in Gujarat state. Gujarat Government has approved a proposal of Merino laminate to establish a plant with an investment of Rs 630 crore at Halol. Merino has proposed setting up facilities for wood based particle board, prelam particles boards, coating on pre-lam particle board, and furniture manufacturing in state.

The other decorative laminate pioneer brand, Greenlam is also gearing up to set up a plant in Andhra Pradesh. The company ‘Greenlam Industries Ltd’ has also announced setting up a manufacturing facility at Naidupeta, Nellore in Andhra Pradesh for manufacturing of Particle Boards and allied products. Company has been provisionally allotted land measuring 65 acres approximately by Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructural Corporation (APIIC) at Naidupeta.

The wood panel industry leading player, ‘Century Plyboards (I) Ltd’ has its manufacturing facility of Particle Boards in Tamilnadu near Chennai. Further the company is reportedly ready to invest into MDF production in North as well as South India. Although the confirmation on product and capacities are yet to be announced but the basic ground work is taking place. Other laminates brands such as Stylam, Royale Touché too are exploring the avenues to enter into Low Pressure Laminates manufacturing business.

It is noted that the demand scenario of Particle Boards has turned more positive side post COVID-19, and the profit margins are also reported to be firm up. The demands of readymade furniture and reducing import volume have been helping domestic Particle Boards producers to improve capacity utilization and margins. It is also noted that this sector is being dominated by small sized Particle Boards producers; hence Laminate giants see growth opportunity in this sector
