The escalating prices of Poplar Timber in Punjab and Haryana have created a chaos like situation among plywood manufacturing establishments. As per report, Poplar prices have crossed to 1000 per quintal along with strengthening prices of Eucalyptus.

The Ply Reporter correspondent finds that manufacturing units located in Yamunanagar, Ludhiana, and other surrounding areas are re-calculating its input cost of Alternate Plywood, Boards-Doors and said that they have to increase prices of Finished Goods with immediate effect.

Timber suppliers are blaming the short supply and said that they have been receiving 50 percent less quantity because of the harvesting season and labour shortage. Although, there is a huge shortage of Poplar timber in both states because the plantation had dropped more than 50 percent from year 2016 to 2019, and the present scenario was predicted by Ply Reporter in year 2019.

However, the supply is expected to improve from May onward month but Poplar prices would not suppose to come down more than 10-15 percent. The scenario also compels the Industry to accept lower girth timber, which is around 14 inches. This situation has been forcing producers to increase the prices of Alternate Plywood, Boards, and Doors, and which is imminent.
