Plywood price increased by 6% & shuttering ply 2 rupees costlier

Due to the sudden increase the price of formaldehyde, in a meeting called up by All India Plywood Manufacturers Association has decided to increase the rate of plywood with immediate effect. Under the chairmanship of Mr Devendra Chawla, President, All India Plywood Manufacturers Association, a virtual meeting of plywood producers from all over the country was called up on 9th June, in which it has been decided to increased the price of plywood by 6 percent and the price of shuttering plywood by Rs. 2 per square feet.

The decision to increase the price has been implemented with immediate effect. Besides, the association has decided to constitute a committee, which will request the government to expedite the process of issuance of EC, allowing the closed formaldehyde units after the NGT order to run. The committee will also look after the technical work and many issues related to black marketing.

In fact, this meeting was convened to discuss the immediate effect as well as long-term impact of the NGT order on the wood panel industry to close the formaldehyde units regarding Environment Clearance (EC). During the meeting the association's chairmen Shri Naresh Tiwari along with representatives from 10 states were present. AIPMA President Shri Devendra Chawla told the Ply Reporter that the decision has been taken to increase the rate with the consent of all the members, because the production cost has increased significantly due to various reasons including costlier raw materials, increase in labor cost, etc. The chairman of the association, Mr Naresh Tiwari requested all the dealers to accept the increased price and help the industry in this time of crisis.

It is to be noted that in the order given by the NGT on June 3, 2021, the units established after 2006, not having environmental clearance (EC), has been said to close. Its massive impact is being seen on the Wood Panel and Laminate Industry across India, because within two days of the order, due to reduced supply of formaldehyde in North India, its prices have increased by 20 to 25 percent.
