Opening of Wood Based Industry Licence: Yes or No! - Rajiv Parashar, Editor, Ply Reporter

A group of Plywood Manufacturers is against new wood-based licenses because they believe that if new industries will come up, there will be timber shortage and also they will be unable to sell materials. The basis of data for timber availability considered by the government agencies is being doubted by them, and hence they stress upon not issuing of new licence.

Another group of industry people advocate and demand for a new licence of woodbased industries. They also speak about Indian Farmers, with a reason that if new industries come up, the farmers will be benefited. They reason that there is no need for a licensing process due for the wood based industry using plantation timber for making wood products. In these two sides, the industry people are divided.

Whether licenses are being opened by state governments and respective authorities or not! It’s upon the policy makers but one thing is clear that the farmers will plant more if they see higher demand and good returns. And, for that wood panel industries have to create good examples by distributing saplings, educating farmers and bringing everyone to a common agenda to develop agro-forestry ecosystem. Rest all is just discussion and time taking activities. Important thing to do is, spread the awareness for plantation drive, find nurseries and barren land, and contribute to expanding the plantation drive backed up with soil test and colonel research.

The best part is to look forward instead of waiting for the help from the government. Gossiping related to opening of new licences, right or wrong is a different thing! But, creating good coordination with farmers, nurseries, and the government is a win-win situation for all. There is a bright future for Plywood, if the production will be double from now, but focusing on good quality products manufacturing, working on utilisation of machines, men and resources around you will definitely help the industry a lot. So, adopt organise work culture, and focus on team and brand.
