Cases of Some Transport Fraud Worrying

Nowadays, cases of rigging by some transporters in trade have come to the picture and it has been reported in media also. Recently, well-known adhesive maker brand Pidilite has filed a case of fraud of crores against a transporter in the Economic Offenses Wing in Mumbai from whom they had been taking services for one and a half years. A similar case had come to light in a company in Bareilly as well recently. And in Chandigarh also such complaint was filed by a reputed company.

The Ply Reporter's investigation also revealed that whether it is Yamunanagar, Bareilly or Chandigarh, some transporters are often found cheating in terms of weight, and quantity of chemicals and other raw materials, revealed by traders and manufacturers. Pidilite has filed a fraud complaint of Rs 11.57 crore against the owner of a transport firm. It is being told that a former employee of the company was also involved in this. Anticipating irregularities in payment of the transporter, the company initiated an inquiry in which many such irregularities were found in which fake bills had been submitted over the years.

After a thorough investigation by a forensic auditor company, a case of fake bills and taking payment thereof by the transporter came to light. In this work, a former employee of the concerned department of the company has also been found guilty. According to media reports, on the basis of the complaint lodged, the EOW official said that the audit company in its report stated that between January 1, 2020 and January 24, 2022, Monica Roadways produced 1,544 bogus bills and the company submitted bills. In comparison, a total of Rs 11.57 crore was paid. A complaint has been registered under the relevant sections and it is being investigated at the official level.

Although with investigation it always caught up and the company takes action against such staff or the transporter. One of the leading plywood manufactures base in north India said that the rigging cases are rare and cannot be done without involvement of company staff. But some time the transporters display the entire truck load missing, but after investigation they reveal the truth. He said that the Even in case of accident the company bear the loss as they have to keep the insurance of the trucks. As of now the trust among the transporters and traders/suppliers are maintained with few exceptions.
