Imported Ply Pushes Up Decorative Veneer Price

The imported 3 mm plywood prices have registered a big jump since a year and as per market report, it has crossed to USD 1100 level per CBM. The high cost of imported base plywood has forced Indian Decorative Veneer manufacturers to increase the prices of finished materials with immediate effect. As per report, a zoom meeting of Indian Decorative Plywood producers held recently and manufacturers unanimously decided to increase the prices by Rs. 5 per sq ft immediately

 

Decorative Veneer manufacturers opined that along with imported base ply, the prices of decorative fleeces of 0.3 to 0.5 mm thicknesses have also registered to increase due to international log prices and freight cost. Industry views that their input costs have increased to Rs 14 to Rs 15 per sq ft in recent times

As per market reports, the prices of decorative veneer has been increased by Rs. 10 per sq ft in the last 2-3 months due to high prices of their raw materials. Domestic Veneer producers say to The Ply Reporter correspondents that their input cost has been noted to increase due to increase of their entire raw materials, fuel and labor. This industry has been forced to increase the prices and decided to pass this cost to market for their survival.

 

Indian Decorative Veneer industry is mainly dependent on imported 3 mm plywood for  its subtract, which is imported  from Indonesia, Malaysia, Vietnam, Burma and China. Apart from this, they import decorative veneer fleeces and hardwood logs for this purpose from many European and American countries. Some manufacturers produce Poplar timber to make Base plywood and domestically source Teak veneer as well but this industry is majorly dependent on import for its raw materials requirement.
