Grand Success of MATECIA Exhibition & SURFACES REPORTER Architecture Event in Kolkata shows the Rising Power of East & Northeast India | Post Event Re

The MATECIA Exhibition (Materials & Products for Construction, Interiors & Architecture), held alongside the SURFACES REPORTER Architecture Event, concluded successfully at Biswa Bangla Mela Prangan (BBMP), Kolkata, after three high-energy days from 30 January to 1 February 2026, marking a significant milestone for the architecture, interiors, and building materials ecosystem of East and Northeast India.

Spread across over 1,50,000 square feet, the debut regional edition brought together 150+ leading brands, architects, interior designers, developers, dealers, distributors, and material manufacturers, attracting an estimated 14,000–16,000 visitors from 100+ cities and towns across 12 states of East and Northeast India, including West Bengal, Jharkhand, Bihar, Odisha, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura, Chhattisgarh, Arunachal Pradesh, and Sikkim. The show happened in entire exhibition venue and with massive footfall from across the states of East and Northeast showcasing both the rise of the region and the undisputed position of MATECIA as ‘The Mahakumbh’ of the industry, trade and design fraternity.

Together, MATECIA Exhibition and SURFACES REPORTER Architecture Event created one of the largest industry platforms ever organised in Eastern India, showcasing materials, innovation, architecture, and design leadership from across the region.

Grand Inauguration by Industry Leaders

The exhibition was inaugurated in the presence of prominent industry leaders, architects, and dignitaries. Mr. Rajesh Mittal, President of FIPPI and Managing Director of Greenply Industries, attended as the Chief Guest of the inauguration, while National Award–winning actor, motivational speaker, and founder Ashish Vidyarthi graced the ceremony as the Special Guest.

The event also honoured the legendary Architect Dulal Mukherjee with the Lifetime Achievement Award, recognizing his contribution to architecture and design. There was presence of architects from Dimapur, Gangtok, Shillong, Guwahati, Patna, Bhuvneshwar, Kohima, Aizwal, Agartala, Jamshedpur, Ranchi, Siliguri, Kolkata and lots of small towns and cities. Dealers & buyers were from more than 150 small towns & cities of 12-14 surrounding states.

The event symbolised the beginning of a new regional platform designed to connect the architecture, interiors, and building materials ecosystem across East and Northeast India.

Another important feature of the event was India Interior Retailing (IIR) — a dedicated knowledge platform designed to bring together interior retail leaders, showroom owners, dealers, and industry experts.
